LESSON: Loss & Gratitude

These past few months have taught me a lot about loss and gratitude. When looking back, it feels as though at one moment life was normal- calm and undisturbed, besides minor inconveniences. Then, in the blink of an eye, the calm reality I once knew was shaken up. The things I once viewed as constant, disappeared.

It’s a sad truth that it sometimes takes loss to appreciate what you have right in front of you but, it is a reminder to never let the “I love you’s” go unsaid, to hug the ones you love a little tighter, take lots of pictures and to make the conscious decision everyday to be present and to appreciate the things that you love the most, and likely overlook in the fastness of this distracting world.

Sometimes it feels as though there are simply not enough words that can be put together to describe the greatness someone has put into this world. Sometimes, it is not until after they are gone that we try to find these words. All of the love, memories, and emotions a person has made you feel can't be confined to a combination of twenty-six different letters- it's a feeling, one too complex to be defined. What we can do, is soak up every moment we have with the people we love. Live our days with grateful hearts for what we do have. This way, when the time comes to let go of the physicality of what we are grateful for we will be able to look back and be left with an abundance of love and gratitude.
